About

My name is Zach, and I’m nearly a veterinarian.

I am in my final year of vet school, studying at Charles Sturt University in the regional city of Wagga Wagga in New South Wales, Australia.

In the time I’ve spent working towards this goal I’ve encountered some phenomenal animals, dedicated clients, and brilliant veterinarians and nurses. I’ve had the chance to travel across Australia and the World working with animals and have become inspired by the great power that lies in the human-animal bond.

Along the way there have been plenty of embarrassing mistakes, and I’ve lost my fair share of scuffles with pets dedicated not to cooperate – but that all comes with the territory of being a student!

This year I am heading out on my final year of placements – A year where I transfer all of the knowledge I’ve learned so far into the practical reality of becoming a vet. The year includes dairy work in Victoria, charity work in remote Northern Territory communities, and a trip to Papua New Guinea to complete fieldwork for my honours project.

It’s going to be a crazy journey, and whether it’s challenging or fun I’m going to be sharing it here.

‘Seeing Practice’ is the term for a student spending time learning from a practicing vet. It’s a chance to get involved with actual cases and begin to have a real impact as a veterinarian. This exposure is a universal experience shared by vets from all over the world, and is an unmistakeable highlight of vet school.
